How to Reuse A Styrofoam Cake
You’ll never guess what one of my favorite tools I use in my business is: styrofoam or dummy cakes!
These really come in handy especially when you want to practice different buttercream piping designs or techniques. Today, I’m sharing a super simple tip that allows you to reuse these styrofoam cakes so you don’t have to keep spending money on new ones, because it can really add up!
All you need: your styrofoam cake, saran wrap, and a baking pan.
Here are the steps:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and leave your baking pan in the oven while it’s warming up.
Securely wrap your styrofoam cake with saran wrap. Cover every inch so you don’t get buttercream onto it. If any part is showing, use another piece of saran wrap to cover it. Make it as tight and secure as possible.
After your oven has been heated to 350, let your pan sit in there for around 5 minutes, then carefully remove it and place it onto your counter.
Take your covered styrofoam cake and press it onto the hot pan, slowly rolling it around. Press the cake firmly into the pan while rolling it, making sure to get every inch covered. The heat from the pan will help “melt” and securely attach the saran wrap to the styrofoam.
Now you are ready to use the cake! You can place buttercream onto it and not worry about messing up the styrofoam. Once you’re done, you just need to carefully cut the saran wrap, remove it, and repeat the process again.
