National Ice Cream Day is coming up, so what better way to celebrate than with some fun dipped waffle cones?
There’s no better way to eat ice cream than in a cone, because you’re technically being green and eco-friendly by not using bowls and spoons!
To make these delicious dipped cones, you’ll want to start with some good quality white chocolate. I like to use Guittard candy wafers. They’re basically like candy melts but taste a lot better.
You can use any color you like, but I like to start off with white chocolate, and then color them using either oil-based food coloring, or using some flo-coat and regular gel coloring. You can see this technique here. You can also use dark, milk, or semi-sweet chocolate!
To prep, line a baking sheet or large plate with parchment paper. Start off with about 1 cup of chocolate and melt in the microwave for 30 second intervals, mixing in between until you reach a smooth consistency. Place your desired toppings in separate bowls. I used crushed cinnamon graham crackers, crushed meringue cookies, and freeze dried raspberries.
Take your cone and dip into your melted chocolate, turning the cone in order to get an even coat of chocolate all around. Once dipped, sprinkle with your choice of topping, then lay them on top of your parchment paper to harden!
Then you can fill with whatever ice cream you like :)
If not using right away, store them in an airtight container and freeze them.
Some other options for decorating your dipped waffle cones (using either dark or white chocolate):
- coconut flakes
- nuts (almonds, pecans, pistachios, etc.)
- crushed pretzels
- mini chocolate chips
- freeze dried fruit (mangoes, strawberries, etc.)
